World Survival 2023 3-band carom billiards tournament: The tragic road cost Dao Van Ly nearly 1 billion VND
The dramatic World Survival 2023 3-band carom tournament until the very end, unfortunately, the ending was not happy for Vietnamese billiards. Dao Van Ly has successfully performed series 4 and only needs 2 more precise lines to win the championship, pocketing 50,000 USD, nearly 1.2 billion VND. Unfortunately, his next shot sent the cue ball through the narrow gap between the ice and the target ball. With 68 points and a performance of 2 points, he had to place 3rd, receive 12,000 USD (about 290 million VND), meaning a loss of about 1 billion!
This result was too bitter because in the final, Dao Van Ly still played stably. In the first half, he led 57 points, while Polychronopoulos only 37 points, Tayfun Tasdemir 25 points and Jun Tae Kim 1 point. Unexpectedly in the middle of the second half, the opponents broke through with series 10 of Tayfun Tasdemir and series 7 of Polychronopoulos. The championship belonged to Polychronopoulos with 76 points. Runner-up Tayfun Tasdemir received $25,000. Tran Quyet Chien lost in the semi-finals, so he got 8,000 USD (more than 190 million VND). Bao Phuong Vinh in the group of 17-24 should receive 3,000 USD, about 71 million VND.

Previously, Tran Quyet Chien and Dao Van Ly were with the same group in the semi-finals of the World Survival 2023 3-band carom tournament, after competing in the quarterfinals and the main round. Group B of two Vietnamese representatives started to fight at 14h00 on August 20, quite heavily with Nikos Polychronopoulos and world No. 1 Dick Jaspers. Group A will be played at 12:00, bringing together Tayfun Tasdemir, Jun Tae Kim, Marco Zanetti and Chi Yeon Cho.
Once again, Tran Quyet Chien picked up a slow pace. This time, it could even be claimed to be too slow. As a result, near the end of the first half, Tony Tran ran out of points, so he had to "advance" 30 points, meaning he needed 60 points in this period. It was not until it was time to borrow points that Vietnam's No.1 3-band carom player showed signs of prosperity, but his efforts were just enough to get the score from "negative" to "positive" before entering the 2:35 half. points, including 30 borrowed points.

In the second half, Tran Quyet Chien continued to disappoint, in contrast to his compatriot Dao Van Ly scoring fairly evenly, so without the need for "terrible" series, he still easily took the lead in the first half with 69 points and ended the match in the second half. 1st place with 81 points. Following in the footsteps of Dao Van Ly to the final is Nikos Polychronopoulos with 65 points after a great effort to beat Dick Jaspers 45 points. In the first half, Polychronopoulos was only 17 points compared to 29 points of the Dutch number 1.
At the end of the game, Tran Quyet Chien began to launch impressive series again. But unlike the previous matches, Tony Tran was not able to maintain the "miracle" enough to continue the spectacular comeback. With 49 points in the end, he had to stop the game like compatriot Bao Phuong Vinh before. The final match at 18:00 is the match between Dao Van Ly, Polychronopoulos with Tayfun Tasdemir and Jun Tae Kim. Previously in Group A, Tayfun Tasdemir and Jun Tae Kim led hands on to the final with the same 74 points. Chi Yeon Cho only got 50 points. The record of old general Marco Zanetti is even worse with 42 points.

The women's tournament has ended. After topping the qualifying round against nine South Korean players, Dutch world No. 1 Therese Klompenhouwer seemed to be exhausted. As a result, having almost never lost a tournament in a rather long career, the Dutch girl is currently the reigning world champion of UMB, who stumbled at the World Survival 2023 3-band carom tournament in Seoul, South Korea.

In the final, Klompenhouwer only ranked 3rd with 40 points, after the two hosts Shin Young Lee (52 points) and Bo Mi Choi (with 40 points but won the penalty). Jeong Hyun Park was last with 19 points. "In the Survival system, players need a bit of luck, or at least don't get unlucky," commented Klompenhouwer. In the qualifiers, I've lost or drawn 2 of the 3 finalists."
