Vietnam won the first Southeast Asian team amateur golf medal

This year's tournament, hosted by Malaysia, takes place on the par71 course of The Mines Golf Resort with four strokes of individual and team achievements, all applied to four events including Putra, Santi, Lion City and Kartini Cup . On the closing day of the curtain 24/8, Nguyen Duc Son, born in 2007, won an individual gold medal when he finished with +3 points in the Lion City Cup. In this group results, Duc Son and Nguyen Tuan Anh ranked fourth. The medal for Duc Son is also the only individual in the Vietnamese delegation.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Anh Minh, Nguyen Dang Minh, Nguyen Nhat Long and Doan Uy teamed up to bring home the Putra Cup team silver medal. Combining four rounds, this quartet hit 842 strokes, 13 more than the first team in Indonesia.

With the recent achievements in the Lion City Cup and the Putra Cup, Vietnamese golf has only won medals at the Southeast Asian team amateur golf tournament since the year of the 2019 war.

This is an internal playground for teams from 10 ASEAN countries, plus Hong Kong (China) and Papua New Guinea, initially only competing for the Putra Cup according to the idea of ​​Malaysia's first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, in 1961. This year, the Putra Cup has reached the milestone of 60 times, the Lion City Cup initiated by Singapore is "14 years old", the Santi Cup proposed by Thailand has reached the 12th tournament, and the Kartini has been suggested by Indonesia to be eight times.

The Putra Cup and the Santi Cup both have no age limit while the Lion City Cup and Kartini Cup only accept U-16 players. In this set of cups, Putra and Lion City are for men, the rest for women.
