Thua Thien - Hue Golfer 16 years old Nguyen Anh Minh became the first Vietnamese to be crowned at the Asian Faldo Series Finals, with a score of -9 on April 21.

Minh kept the top of the table through all three rounds of the prestigious global youth golf tournament organized by the legendary Nick Faldo at Laguna Lăng Cô. With seven birdies and three bogeys, the 16-year-old golfer scored -4 in the third round, thereby finishing the tournament with a score of -9 and five strokes from runner-up Isaac Lam.

In the first two days of fighting, the one who pursued Anh Minh the most was Syed Yashal Shah. However, the Pakistani player was soon left at the beginning of the final round when he was repeatedly hit by bogey. Taking advantage of the decline of Yashal Shah, Hong Kong golfer (China) Isaac Lam rose to second and put pressure on Anh Minh.

Hope Vietnam started well, but wobbled in the middle of the round. Minh was distracted by the audience talking loudly on the phone, leading to a bogey on hole 8. After that, the Vietnamese golfer kicked the ball into the sand next to the fairway on hole 10, continuing to stick to bogey. However, two consecutive birdies then helped Anh Minh return to a score of -9, before playing stably for the rest of the round to keep the top of the table.

After 14 times the Faldo Series Asia final round was held, the new tournament saw a Vietnamese golfer take the throne. Minh will continue to attend the Faldo Series World Finals in November this year.

At the age of 16, Anh Minh once again affirmed his current position of the number one golfer in Vietnam. Last year, the guy born in 2007 became the first Vietnamese amateur golfer to win a professional tournament in the country, when he won the Lexus Challenge. Minh is also the youngest golfer to win a professional tournament in Vietnam. Also in 2022, Anh Minh set a record when he was crowned with the best score (-5) in the 17-year history of the national championship, then became the Vietnamese golfer with the best record at the 31st SEA Games (ranked). T6).

Minh will continue to be Vietnam's flagship at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia next month. The Faldo Series Asia champion will rest for two days, before flying to Cambodia to best prepare for the regional arena. "My goal is to win the first medal for Vietnamese golf at the SEA Games," Anh Minh shared.

Legendary Nick Faldo also appreciates Anh Minh, with stability maintained through three rounds of the Asian Faldo Series. He also said that Vietnamese golfers have improved a lot compared to previous tournaments. Besides Anh Minh, other Vietnamese players Le Khanh Hung and Nguyen Dang Minh are also in the 10 of the tournament at Laguna Lăng Cô.
