VFF bans second-class goalkeepers from playing for two years
On July 30, Kien Giang lost 0-6 to Dong Nai at home. Goalkeeper Nguyen Van Ba conceded five goals in the second half and received two consecutive yellow cards from the referee in the 90th minute and the first offset.
After receiving a report from match supervisor Nguyen Tan Long, referee Nguyen Kim Viet Bao, VFF Disciplinary Committee determined that goalkeeper Nguyen Van Ba intentionally gave up to lose more goals.
On August 18, the VFF Disciplinary Committee decided to fine Nguyen Van Ba 10 million VND and ban him from participating in football activities for 24 months at tournaments managed and organized by VFF. Nguyen Van Ba was determined to violate Article 52 on match-fixing, scores, specifically playing at the wrong level and falsifying the result of the match.
Nguyen Van Ba's behavior is said to be similar to goalkeeper Nguyen Minh Nhut in the match Long An lost 2-5 to Ho Chi Minh City club in the 6th round of the V-League 2017. Given that the referee blew, goalkeeper Long An turned his back to the player. Ho Chi Minh City comfortably took a penalty kick. The VFF Disciplinary Committee banned Minh Nhut from playing for two years, but then removed the sentence when there was an application to help this goalkeeper return in time to the V-League 2018.
Nguyen Van Ba was born in 2001, growing up from the SLNA youth academy. He was once called up to the U19 Vietnam team under coach Philippe Troussier, the same age group as Phan Tuan Tai and Huynh Cong Den.
After wearing the shirt of Kien Giang club, Van Ba helped the team win the right to go from third place to second place this season. However, after 14 rounds, Kien Giang was relegated to the bottom of Group B with five points with no wins, five losses and seven draws.
Also in the 13th round of the Second Division, player Hoang Nhat Nam was banned for five matches and fined 10 million VND for insulting and insulting the referee in the 2-2 draw at Dong Thap.
