VAR is used in the V-League
The person in charge of operating the VAR department is Mr. Mai Xuan Hung. The referee on the field is Mr. Ngo Duy Lan and his assistant Nguyen Trung Hau and Pham Hoai Tam.
Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) - the organizer of the V-League, First Class and National Cup - currently has two VAR vehicles. However, they only used this technology for one match in the next round for testing. A VPF leader said: "If everything goes well, VAR will be widely applied in the next rounds."
Previously, FIFA recommended that VPF should not immediately apply VAR to stressful matches, such as the championship or promotion and relegation, but choose gentle matches for the referees to get used to. At some of the first matches that apply VAR technology, FIFA will send an advisor to work to supervise and support the operation of VAR at the official match. The VAR monitoring process in Vietnam will be closely monitored by FIFA within three years.
The referee board also sent people to train Viettel and Ha Tinh clubs on VAR technology. Viettel's coach Thach Bao Khanh said he had a preliminary grasp, hoping that having VAR would make the match fairer, and the referees would avoid mistakes.
Viettel is currently fourth with 25 points, three points behind the leader of the Hanoi Police. Ha Tinh is sixth, with 20 points after 15 matches.
VPF hatched the plan to use VAR four years ago. However, due to funding and licensing issues of FIFA, it was not until phase II of this season that video technology was introduced into the V-League. Since the beginning of the year, FIFA experts have come to guide, organize trials, evaluate and license 18 Vietnamese referees.
