QatarNguyen Quoc Viet kicked, Vietnam lost to Kyrgyzstan 4-5 in the penalty shootout after 90 minutes of 0-0 draw in the last match of the U23 Doha Cup friendly tournament on March 29.

Facing Kyrgyzstan, coach Philippe Troussier only changed one main kick position compared to the defeat to the UAE 0-4, when Quan Van Chuan took the lead instead of Doan Huy Hoang - the goalkeeper had a torn forehead due to a collision with the vertical post. The team played in accordance with the French leader's desire to hold more balls, but still did not show sharpness in the attack phase.

The whole first half, Vietnam only finished twice. Le Van Do cut the bar in the 15th minute, and Nguyen Thanh Nhan headed the ball to the right position of the Kyrgyz goalkeeper in the 38th minute.

In the second half, coach Troussier launched Vu Tien Long, Nguyen Quoc Viet and Nguyen Duc Viet on the field in the hope of refreshing the gameplay. However, these adjustments were not effective. Despite continuing to hold the ball more, Vietnam could not create situations that threatened the opponent's goal. Even when they were overplayed because Midin received a second yellow card from the 83rd minute, the team could not create a mutation. Therefore, Vietnam did not score at the U23 Doha Cup, the debut tournament of coach Troussier.

Regardless of victory or defeat after 90 minutes, the two teams entered the penalty shootout to determine the winner and loser. Nine players from both teams made it successfully, before Quoc Viet stepped up to kick the 10th kick. HAGL's striker lightly shot in the middle and was easily caught by goalkeeper Priadkin Artem. Vietnam lost 4-5 to Kyrgyzstan and finished the U23 Doha Cup in the last place in the 10 teams participating in the tournament.

U23 Vietnam will be divided into two groups to move to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City tomorrow, March 30. The players were then returned to the club to continue playing in Vietnamese professional football tournaments.
