Tuchel risks losing his job if he doesn't win the Bundesliga

Germany According to German player Dietmar Hamann, coach Thomas Tuchel may be fired if he does not help Bayern defend the Bundesliga title this season.

"The board can be awkward, but Tuchel also made a bad impression in his first four weeks at Bayern," Hamann told Ruhr Nachrichten. "If Bayern lose the Bundesliga title, the position of this coach will also be much weaker."

On March 25, Bayern announced the selection of Tuchel as the new head coach, replacing the sacked predecessor Julian Nagelsmann. But after a month of work, Tuchel did not help Bayern improve but even risked losing all three titles. "Gray Lobster" lost 1-2 to Freiburg in the quarterfinals of the German Cup at the Allianz Arena and lost to Man City with a total score of 1-4 through two Champions League legs.

Over the weekend, Bayern continued to disappoint when they lost 1-3 at Mainz and lost the top spot to Dortmund. This result extended Tuchel's winless streak with Bayern to four matches, after drawing Hoffenheim 1-1 in the Bundesliga, losing 0-3 and drawing Man City 1-1 in the Champions League quarter-finals. Adding the loss to Freiburg, the German coach did not win five of the seven matches he led Bayern.

Hamann played for the Bayern youth team from 1989 to 1992 and was promoted to the first team from 1993 to 1998. He scored 10 goals in 143 matches, won two Bundesligas, a German Cup, a German League Cup and a UEFA Cup - the precursor to the Europa League.

Hamann admits Dortmund is self-determined and can win all five of their last five matches to win the Bundesliga. The 49-year-old also emphasized that Tuchel could not improve Bayern's performance after replacing Nagelsmann. "I rarely see a change of manager where things get worse in the short term. But that's exactly what happened at Bayern," he said.

In the 29th round, Bayern entered the game well and opened the scoring in the 29th minute thanks to Sadio Mane's close-range header - the striker kicked for the first time after punching teammate Leroy Sane. However, Bayern collapsed when the home team pushed up the squad and pressed for the second half of the second half. In less than 15 minutes, from 65 to 79, Ludovic Ajorque, Leandro Barreiro and Aaron Martin respectively scored to help Mainz win back.

After the game, Tuchel admitted that the players were losing strength quickly, lack of concentration, did not have the energy to protest, and Bayern were in crisis. Meanwhile, CEO Oliver Kahn criticized Bayern for having a disastrous second half and not being able to win the Bundesliga with such a performance. Asked more about the possibility of resigning, the Bayern head said: "My only goal is to finish the season with the championship, and then come back strong next season."

According to German newspaper Bild, Bayern's board of directors will meet on May 22, a few days before the closing match of the Bundesliga against Cologne on May 27, to decide the future of both Tuchel, and Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic .

Kahn, 53, has been the CEO of Bayern since July 2021 and has a contract until the end of 2024. Salihamidzic, 46, has been the club's sporting director since 2017. The duo has come under a lot of pressure over the decision to leave. Nagelsmann's discharge caused a shock at the end of March. At that time, Bayern still had a chance to win the treble. But after less than a month of changing the general, "Gray Lobster" is in danger of empty-handed.
