Tuchel: 'Bayern can win everything'

Coach Thomas Tuchel believes the Bayern squad is capable of winning every title, but at the same time warns that not all players are happy under his command.

"I decided very quickly about leading Bayern," Tuchel said in his inauguration press conference on March 25. "Because Bayern has a winning DNA, and has the strongest squad in Europe. Me and my partner are eager to lead such a talented squad. I am honored to receive an invitation from Bayern, and of course However, I accepted to be close to my family, where I was born."

Tuchel was born in Bavaria, where Bayern Munich is also headquartered. He led Mainz 05 and Dortmund in the Bundesliga in 2009-2017, winning the German Cup at the end of this period. Bayern had the opportunity to recruit Tuchel in 2018, but they acted slowly and let this coach go to PSG. This time, the leadership of "Gray Lobster" decided to appoint Tuchel quickly, right after he had just fired Julian Nagelsmann.

With Nagelsmann losing his job at a crucial stage of the season, Tuchel thinks not all players are happy. "However, this is a new opportunity for the players to show off," the 50-year-old added. "The best way for us to build trust is the performance on the field."

Tuchel says he won't delve into or dramatically change anything at Bayern after taking office. "There must be a reason why the team's performance is erratic," he said. "But I don't want to stuff the player's brain with 20 different ideas."

Tuchel once brought PSG to the Champions League final 2020, but lost to Bayern. A year later, he helped Chelsea win the Champions League 2021. CEO Oliver Kahn was impressed with Tuchel's CV, so he quickly brought him in to replace Nagelsmann. Bayern have reached the quarter-finals of the German Cup and Champions League this season, but are second in the Bundesliga.

Tuchel will not call to talk to the Bayern players who are gathering with the national team, but he will wait for them to return to talk directly. He wants to create a breakthrough right in the first match to lead the team, against Dortmund at the Allianz Arena on Saturday 1/4. "The game will be exciting at a new level when Dortmund are in high form, and Bayern have to chase on the scoreboard," added Tuchel.

Finally, Tuchel also showed sympathy for Nagelsmann - his former student and partner during his time in Augsburg. "I've been in this situation before, so I can understand how he feels right now," the 50-year-old coach said.

Tuchel signed a two-year contract with Bayern, until the end of June 2025. In the last team, he was sacked by Chelsea on September 7, 2022, after disagreements with players such as Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku or Callum Hudson-Odoi.
