Thuy Linh nears the top 20 in the world
In the US, Thuy Linh defeated two host players, Esther Shi in the round of 16 and Iris Wang in the round of 16, respectively, with a score of 2-1. In the quarterfinals, Thuy Linh won the first set, but lost 1-2 against the number one Thai seed Ratchanok Intanon.
Thanks to the results at the US Open, Thuy Linh was added 3,850 points, up three places to 26th on the BWF table to set a new milestone in her career. Last week, the player born in 1997 was added 5,040 points with his achievement in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open. Since the beginning of 2023, Thuy Linh has jumped 28 steps, from 51st place.
Thuy Linh continues to be the number one female tennis player in Vietnam, number six in Southeast Asia and 18 in Asia. In the region, Thuy Linh is behind four Thai players: Ratchanok Intanon (7th), Pornpawee Chochuwong (10th), Busanan Ongbamrungphan (13th), Supanida Katethong (16th), and Indonesian tennis player Mariska Tunjung (8th). Meanwhile, the world number one position continues to belong to Japan's Akane Yamaguchi.
In 2023, Thuy Linh won the Vietnam International Challenge, runner-up Thailand International Challenge. At the end of August, Linh will go to Denmark to attend the world championship, then go to China to compete at Asiad 19.
With her current position and performance, Thuy Linh is expected to be able to win tickets to the Paris Olympics 2024.
