Three hot spots in the big battle Tottenham - Man Utd

England's new Tottenham full-back layout or Man Utd's direct kick are important factors in the highlight match of the second round of the Premier League today, August 19.

But in fact, this has appeared in football for a long time. Coaches often place wingers who are agile and skillful with wide kicks - where they can isolate opposing full-backs and move into the middle to finish or coordinate. The next natural step is for full-backs to take on this role.

In the official debut against Brentford in the first round of the English Premier League, new coach Ange Postecoglou asked both full-backs to take on more central positions to support the midfield. Postecoglou used this formula at Celtic, when full-backs often played the role of creative players in the central area in and around the opposition box.

But his use of Emerson Royal and Destiny Udogie - two players who are not strong in possession - in this new position was a surprise. The duo were asked to exploit the space in the middle - an adjustment that could help Tottenham's midfield overwhelm Man Utd.

In the opening match against Wolves at Old Trafford, Casemiro was often isolated in the position of the deepest midfielder when Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes were both more attacking and advanced, leaving Man Utd's midfield revealing many gaps.

With a duo of full-backs freely moving into the center to support Yves Bissouma, Tottenham could push forward and stretch Man Utd's defence. British newspaper Sunsport said that the "Red Devils" will have many difficulties in defending if they keep the midfield in the opening match.

Richarlison is almost certain to start, but has a different style of play than Kane. The Brazilian striker is four years younger, more agile, more explosive. However, his ability to move, position, time and finish is far behind the former captain.

Against Brentford - a club with a deep and well-organized defense, Richarlison often dropped deep or moved wide to receive the ball. Although the 26-year-old striker can be effective in these positions, it leaves Tottenham with a lack of connection points in the penalty area.

In the new system under Postecoglou, the wingers move wide and high to lengthen the pitch and create space in the center for players to move up. This means that Tottenham need the striker to kick close to the opposing centre-backs to apply pressure and receive the ball from creative players.

Not only is he a good goalscorer, but Kane also plays a good role in creating. This is partly resolved through the signing of James Maddison from Leicester, and the English midfielder will play a key role in London today. If Maddison can receive the ball in the last third of the pitch, Richarlison's pace and aggressiveness could threaten United's defence.

One of the weaknesses of Man Utd last season was the ability to deploy the ball from home. This led to the decision to part ways with David de Gea after 12 years to replace him with Onana. Ten Hag's idea was to hold the ball firmly in the home field, with Onana and the central defenders trying to "trap" the opponent to press high. From there, Man Utd can develop the ball up the middle of the field and open up attack lines.

This way of playing did not work well in the opening match because Wolves did not rise to compete for the ball. Instead, new coach Gary O'Neil's team retreated to the midfield, one on one and limited space.

Therefore, Man Utd was forced to play more directly with early passes to Antony and Alejandro Garnacho in the wide area. Wolves are also prepared for these situations, often sending two people to closely follow the Man Utd winger.

But Sunsport believes that this direct way of playing by Man Utd can be effective today. In the context of Tottenham full-backs moving forward and sticking to the center when controlling the ball, Man Utd can pass long to exploit the spaces left behind on these two sides when winning the ball.
