The Vietnamese women's volleyball team quickly defeated Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is currently ranked 75th in the world, rated much lower than Vietnam. Therefore, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet allowed the pillars to rest after the difficult comeback against South Korea.
With a squad consisting of many players who had little chance to play before, Vietnam still won easily after less than an hour with a difference of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-9.
In the remaining match, Korea continued to struggle, taking five sets to defeat Taiwan. This development helps Vietnam have an advantage over Taiwan in terms of physical strength when facing the decisive match tomorrow, September 1.
The tournament format stipulates that if the match has a score of 3-0 or 3-1, the winning team gets three points, the losing team gets no points. If the match has a score of 3-2, the winning team gets two points, the losing team gets one point. After two matches, Vietnam leads Group C with five points. Behind are Taiwan (four points) and South Korea (three points).
Vietnam only needs to win Taiwan every score to be sure to lead the group, thereby having a great chance to enter the group of four strongest teams. In the most recent confrontation at the AVC Challenge Cup 2023, Vietnam won 3-0 against Taiwan.
The 2023 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship will be held in Thailand from August 30 to September 6 with 14 participating teams. After 20 times, China leads with 13 championships, followed by Japan (5) and Thailand (2). Vietnam's best performance in the tournament is fifth place twice in 2015 and 2017.
