The Vietnamese player broke his fibula
Trung Hieu was placed in the starting role at Thien Truong Stadium. In the 9th minute, the defender born in 1998 ran back to receive the ball, without colliding with anyone, before suddenly sitting down on the field to signal his injury.
After being checked, Trung Hieu immediately had to leave the field and go to the hospital. Scan results showed that the defender had a fracture of the lower third of his right fibula. He had to wear a cast and spent six to eight weeks recovering.
Trung Hieu grew up in Quang Ninh youth football and was promoted to the first team in 2018. After the team dissolved in 2021, he moved to Hai Phong and developed well under the guidance of coach Chu Dinh Nghiem. He played prominently, playing 40 out of a maximum of 46 matches in the last two seasons in the V-League, thereby catching the "eye" of coach Philippe Troussier in the September training session.
Another Hai Phong player was also injured yesterday, Trieu Viet Hung. In the 24th minute, the 26-year-old midfielder collided strongly in the air with Mohammed Yameen, leading to head bleeding. He had a deep tear in the eyebrow above his left eye, so he had to have two layers of cosmetic stitches, and needed about a week to recover.
Viet Hung belongs to the second generation of HAGL Arsenal JMG training facility. He played in the V-League since 2016 for HAGL, then moved to Hai Phong on loan in 2022. By the 2023 season, Viet Hung completely moved to the port team. From central midfielder, the midfielder from Hai Duong was allowed to play left back as well.
After the match, coach Troussier regretted not being able to test the two players mentioned above as planned. Besides, he also hopes that Hai Phong Club will sympathize, especially when they are about to compete in the 2023-2024 AFC Cup. The port team is expected to play its opening match on September 21 against PSM Makassar of Indonesia. The two remaining opponents in Group H are Hougang United of Singapore and Sabah of Malaysia.
