The Ghanaian striker's son fainted after his father failed to pay the penalty
Ayew missed the penalty kick in the 21st minute, when Ghana lost 0-2 to Uruguay on December 2. Witnessing this ball, his 7-year-old daughter fainted and was hospitalized in Doha, according to HLN.
Both Andre and his brother Jordan Ayew were substituted after the break, but it's unclear if that was because of the incident. That Andre rushed to the hospital and was relieved to know that his daughter did not have serious problems.
Via Twitter, Ghanaian reporter Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo, posted a photo of Ayew hugging his daughter at the hospital with the caption: "Andre Ayew went straight from the stadium to the hospital to visit his daughter, who fainted after witnessing it. He missed the penalty against Uruguay. It was quite scary, but fortunately the daughter recovered."
Ayew's ball was reminiscent of 12 years ago, when Asamoah Gyan missed a penalty at the end of extra time, missing a golden opportunity to help Ghana beat Uruguay in the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Andre Ayew was the only member of Ghana at this year's World Cup to be in that match.
In the match on December 2, Ghana only needed one point to continue. They thought they were close to that goal when Moahammed Kudus was fouled by Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet in the penalty area. However, seasoned experience could not help Ayew beat Rochet in the subsequent penalty. Ghana then kicked like a loser, letting Giorgian de Arrascaeta concede twice in the first half.
