President Emmanuel Macron wants to bring striker Karim Benzema and a group of injured players to Qatar to support Argentina's home team in the 2022 World Cup final.

*Argentina - France: 10pm Sunday, December 18, on MetaSports.

This intention was revealed by French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera to Marca (Spain). Accordingly, President Macron intends to bring a group of injured players to Qatar to strengthen teammates in the final. This group includes Karim Benzema, Lucas Hernandez, Christopher Nkunku, Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kante.

Of these, Benzema is the most noticeable. He was originally on the list of France to attend the World Cup but withdrew before the tournament due to injury. As coach Didier Deschamps did not call for a replacement, Benzema was still eligible to play if needed and was awarded a gold medal if France won. Recently, there have been rumors that the 34-year-old striker will play in the final due to his recovery from injury.

During last week's press conference, a reporter asked Deschamps if he intended to call Benzema back. But the French coach replied coldly: "Should I answer this question? Don't let me answer it. Next question."

Of the remaining players, Hernandez is also on the World Cup list like Benzema. The Bayern defender started but played only nine minutes in the opening match of the group stage against Australia, before leaving the tournament due to a ligament injury.

The French press also reported that the Government of this country will not hold a welcome ceremony for the team at the Elysee Palace on Monday, December 19, even in the case of defeating Argentina. The main reason is because President Macron did not return to Paris in time on Sunday. Therefore, the reception, if any, will be held later.
