Morocco's AustraliaNouhaila Benzina became the first player to compete in a hijab at the World Cup.

Benzina wears a hijab during the match Morocco won 1-0 against South Korea on July 30. FIFA once banned the wearing of hijabs during matches, for safety and health reasons. This ban was lifted in 2014 and at that year's Under-17 World Cup, Muslim women players wore headscarves on the field for the first time.

The hijab is a traditional Islamic headscarf, worn by women through puberty in the presence of adult men who are not members of the family.

Benzina nearly scored against Korea, when he volleyed over the bar. The 25-year-old Moroccan female player also made some important saves. In the 83rd minute, she accepted the only yellow card of the match to prevent Korea from counter-attacking. In the first match lost to Germany 0-6, Benzina did not play.

Morocco is 55 places behind Korea in FIFA, but won a historic victory in the first World Cup. Striker Ibtissam Jraidi scored the decisive goal in the 6th minute, with a header into the far corner.

Morocco is ranked third in Group H of the 2023 Women's World Cup, with three points from two games, equal to Germany but less by difference. Colombia leads with six points, while South Korea has none. To win tickets to the 1/8 round, Morocco needs to beat Colombia in the last round. In the first two rounds, Colombia won 2-0 Korea and Germany 2-1.
