DR Congo: The women's team of the DC Motema Pembe team in the Democratic Republic of the Congo used violence against the male referee, after he refused to give them a penalty.

The bad incident took place in the match DC Motema Pembe against TP Mazembe at the Democratic Republic of Congo Women's National Championship on February 17. DC Motema Pembe players were furious when the referee denied them a penalty, at a time when the team was leading 1-5.

DC Motema Pembe female players chase the referee to the outside of the Lubumbashi field. The king of the field ran away, but was caught up in the surveillance area outside the pitch. As a result, the referee received a series of kicks from the female players, and was repeatedly punched by a man in the Motema Pembe coaching staff.

The incident was somewhat calmed down when a field staff escorted the referee into the pitch tunnel. Even when the referee entered the tunnel, the female DC Motema Pembe players continued to intend to chase. Meanwhile, TP Mazembe players stood still on the field when the incident happened.

The match was stopped after the incident. The Football Association of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has suspended eight female players from DC Motema Pembe, and opened an investigation into the incident. On social networks, many fans condemned the behavior of DC Motema Pembe players. Many people demanded the permanent suspension of players who acted violently with the referee, and thought that this was an incident that tarnished the image of African football.
