Ho Chi Minh City Gilberto Bottiglieri was upset when student Robson De Oliveira was adjudged to lose despite overwhelmingly playing against Tran Ngoc Luong in the 60kg MMA match at LION Championship 05.

"This is the worst cheating I have ever seen in an MMA match," coach Bottiglieri said after the match at Rach Mieu gymnasium. "Vietnam's boxer was taken-down in all three rounds. He couldn't touch anything. He didn't do anything, and then he won. The match wasn't fair. at all. I swear I don't understand what's going on here. The referee is the worst person I've ever seen. I swear."

Oliveira won a gold medal in jiu-jitsu at the Brazilian Championships. In the last match, he performed effective grappling, take-down, striking moves that completely overwhelmed Ngoc Luong. But two out of three referees awarded the home puncher the winner with scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 28-19.

Receiving the result announcement, the Brazilian boxer was bewildered, and his coach laughed sarcastically. They then left early, not receiving the reward. Bottiglieri also stated that this is the first but also the last time Oliveira participates in the LION Championship in Vietnam. "Things are strange," he added. "We are extremely disappointed. I received a lot of calls from all over the world asking what happened and why the referees did it."

The puncher Oliveira was also extremely upset. He said: "My opponent tried, but I think I played better. I knocked him down, but somehow I lost. The opponent couldn't even touch me. My face didn't work. I didn't get hurt, I was even able to take pictures. My face is still very good."

The Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation admitted that the match "showed signs of professional error". They assigned the Organizing Committee and the Federation's Professional Committee to cut the ice, re-evaluate the match as soon as possible to give the results and notify the relevant boxers and referees.

LION Championship is the first professional mixed martial arts MMA tournament in Vietnam, with nine weight classes. In which, three women's weight classes (52kg, 56kg and 60kg) and six men's weight classes (56kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 77kg and 84kg). Boxers compete in a knockout to choose the two finalists. The total prize money in the first season in 2022 is up to 3 billion VND.
