After stopping in the group stage, striker Luis Suarez said that Uruguay was treated unfairly at the 2022 World Cup.

"Uruguay was denied two valid penalties when Edinson Cavani and Darwin Nunez were fouled," Suarez told TeleDoce after beating Ghana in the last leg of Group G on the evening of December 2. "The referee and the FIFA official have to explain those two situations. I don't understand what their criteria for awarding a penalty are. And I'm not looking for an excuse for Uruguay's disqualification."

Suarez contributed to both Giorgian de Arrascaeta's goals, helping Uruguay beat Ghana 2-0. But that result was not enough for the South American team to compete for second place in the group with South Korea. They both have four points and a difference of 0, but one goal less than the Asian team.

After learning that Korea scored in stoppage time, Suarez burst into tears on the Uruguay bench. This is the first time the South American team has stopped in the group stage of the World Cup after four times Suarez has attended. This is probably the same final tournament for the 35-year-old striker.

"The truth is that we are powerless against FIFA. After the game I wanted to see my children but was prevented by FIFA officials. I have seen French players sitting with their children on the bench but we did not. It is not allowed. It seems that Uruguay is not influential enough. FIFA is always against us, "said Suarez.

Former Barca striker apologized to Uruguay fans. Suarez also admitted that the home team could have taken control of themselves if they had made better use of the opportunity, especially at the end of the game. But he accepted this result and called on his teammates to look to the future. Suarez has scored seven goals at the World Cup, three in 2010, two in 2014 and two in 2018, but none in Qatar.
