Sinner reached the highest rank of his career after winning the Rogers Cup

Jannik Sinner, who is considered one of Carlos Alcaraz's counterweights, rose to sixth in the world after winning the ATP 1000 in Canada on August 13.

Winning Alex De Minaur 6-4, 6-1 in the Rogers Cup final on August 13, Jannik Sinner touched two milestones. The Italian tennis player won a Masters for the first time and reached the top 6 in the world for the first time. Before that, the ATP saw only one Italian to win the Masters 1000, Fabio Fognini in Monte Carlo 2019.

"These milestones make me stronger, eager to work even harder in the future," Sinner told the ATP. The 21-year-old has lost twice in the Masters final, at Miami 2021 and 2023. This year, he and Andrey Rublev are two new champions at this level in the system.

Loser to Sinner in the Rogers Cup final, Alex De Minaur also rose to 12th in the world - the best of his career. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina also rose 14 places to world number 24, with a semi-final record.

Alcaraz has its 33rd week at the top of the ATP table, with 600 points ahead of Novak Djokovic. This number is considered fragile, as Alcaraz is about to defend 180 points at the Cincinnati Masters and 2000 points at the US Open, and Djokovic does not have to defend any points due to an entry ban last year. The world's top 2 duo will join the ATP 1000 tournament in Cincinnati this week.

The world number one position has changed hands six times this year and the number may not stop, if Djokovic plays well in the upcoming period of the North American hard court season. Alcaraz can definitely secure the number one seed at the US Open, if it reaches the finals of Cincinnati. In the event of an earlier elimination, the Spaniard needs to hope Nole doesn't win the final Masters before the US Open.

Daniil Medvedev remains third, Stefanos Tsitsipas fourth while Holger Rune enters the top five for the first time, despite being eliminated early in Toronto last week.
