Sergio Ramos is still unemployed
According to AS (Spain) on July 31, Sergio Ramos once wanted to return to his old club Sevilla. However, the champion of the Europa League 2022-2023 refused. "Ramos is a great player, and grew up in our academy, but he is not an option for next season," said Sevilla vice-president Jose María del Nido Carrasco.
Some American and Saudi teams also put Ramos in the sights, but did not sign a contract. After recruiting Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, Inter Miami stopped recruiting foreign players. In early 2024, David Beckham's team could buy another former Barca player, Luis Suarez, after this striker liquidated his contract with Gremio.
Another American team, Los Angeles FC may be the most likely destination for Ramos at the moment. The MLS 2022 champion wants the 37-year-old midfielder to pair up with Giorgio Chiellini, a former Italy international who won Euro 2021. Los Angeles FC is also the former club of another former Real player, Gareth Bale.
Ramos played for Sevilla's youth team in the 2003-2004 season and the first team in 2004-2005, before moving to Real. In 16 years with the Madrid team, Ramos won five La Liga and four Champions League. With Spain, he won three major titles in a row, Euro 2008, 2012 and World Cup 2010.
In 2021, Ramos joined PSG on a free transfer. He missed most of the first season, due to injury, but played well the next season. Ramos won two Ligue 1 and a French Super Cup with the Parisians.
On June 2, PSG suddenly announced the release of Ramos, although some sources confirmed that they were preparing to sign more. The French team wants to rejuvenate the squad and players over 35 like Ramos are not a priority. After leaving PSG, the former Real captain practiced alone. Meanwhile, PSG recruited midfielder Milan Skriniar from Inter on a free transfer.
