Same brawl: Ja Morant innocent, best friend jailed!

Tennessee law enforcement arrested Davonte Pack, a longtime close friend of the Ja Morant star, for assaulting a teenager at Morant's home last summer.

Morant and his associates are facing a civil lawsuit due to the above incident. During a basketball game at his home in the suburbs of Memphis, the 23-year-old defender got into a fight with Joshua Holloway.

Morant admitted hitting the then 17-year-old boy, but claimed it was an act of self-defense after Holloway "checked" the ball in the face.

Holloway's May 2023 testimony alleges Morant and his close friend Pack assaulted, physically endangering, and causing emotional harm. Pack admitted hitting the victim, admitting that he "didn't feel threatened at the time when he hit Holloway in the head causing him to fall to the ground."

"Investigators were provided with medical records dated July 27, 2022 that revealed Holloway sustained bodily harm including a hematoma on the scalp, jaw pain, and headache in the area where Pack beat him," the Shelby County Sheriff's Office's arrest warrant reads.

The Davonte Pack proactively admitted assault against Holloway. Police later charged Pack with "unarmed assault" on the 17-year-old.

Ja Morant had no such trouble. The 23-star's attorneys have argued that his client should be exempt from liability under Tennessee law, which allows people who feel threatened at home to use force in certain situations.

On July 12, Judge Carol Chumney of the Shelby County District Court ruled in favor of Morant's defense and adjourned the case until the next hearing on October 12.

Ja Morant filed a counter-suit against Holloway for slander, intimidation and assault. In contrast, no criminal charges have been filed against the Memphis Grizzlies star.

Davonte Pack has been involved in many close friend scandals, including a video in which Ja Morant holds an object resembling a gun, causing the 23-year-old player to be suspended for up to 25 games.

The Pack was also banned from Memphis Grizzlies home games for a year after entering the field to curse at Indiana Pacers players on January 29. Morant also recently unfollowed Davonte Pack on social media.
