Russian-born player enters Wimbledon final

Kazakhstan tennis player Elena Rebagina, who has represented Russian tennis for many years, defeated Simona Halep 6-3, 6-3 in the Wimbledon semi-final on July 7.

It took Rebagina just 1 hour and 15 minutes to beat the former 2019 champion to reach the Grand Slam final for the first time. The 17th seed is Russian, born in Moscow in 1999, and then represented the first five years of Russian tennis career. Rybakina changed to Kazakh citizenship in 2018 to secure financial support from the country's tennis federation.

Rebagina became the first Kazakh to reach the Wimbledon final. She is also the youngest player to reach the All England club women's singles final since Garbine Muguruza in 2015. Rybakina has won two WTA titles but has spent the last two-and-a-half years empty-handed. Earlier this year, she had a career-best ranking, 12th in the world, after reaching the final of the Adelaide Championship and losing to then world No 1 Ashleigh Barty.

The WTA has dubbed Rebagina the "Queen of Serves" thanks to an ace count that leads with 219 straight serves this season. In the Wimbledon semi-final on the afternoon of July 7th, Rebagina played five trump cards and did not face any break points. It was not until the second serve that the two 23-year-olds lost their rhythm, allowing Halep to take advantage of the only break point in the game.

As well as serving skills, Rybakina had a powerful and dangerous forehand that helped her score 17 points. Rybakina has overwhelmed Halep in most doubles series due to better strength and placement. The Kazakh tennis player put a lot of pressure on his predecessors, resulting in nine double-serve errors, two of which came when Halep faced break point.

Maria, 34, left the competition as one of the oldest players to reach a Grand Slam semi-final. The mother-of-two, a phenomenal figure at this year's Wimbledon, became the fourth player in history to reach the semi-finals outside the world's top 100.

Jaber didn't start the season well because he withdrew from the Australian Open with a back injury. But the 27-year-old has been in impressive form since his return in February. She has won 22 of her last 24, winning the Madrid Open and the German Open, before reaching her career-best ranking second in the world on June 27. Since the start of the year, Jaber has won 36 and lost nine, reaching the finals in five of his last seven.

The Wimbledon women's singles final between Jabeur and Rybakina will be held at 8 pm tomorrow, July 9, Hanoi time.
