Ronaldo was mocked for falling in front of Luxembourg

Cristiano Ronaldo's attack and yellow card in the 6-0 victory over weak opponent Luxembourg in the Euro 2024 qualifier on March 26 became a topic of sarcasm.

The opening goal and then raising the gap to 4-0 against Luxembourg helped Ronaldo score two doubles in three days, after doing the same in a 4-0 win over Liechtenstein on March 23. He thus further raised the record with 122 goals in 198 appearances for the Portuguese team.

However, the yellow card in the 57th minute was a stone in Ronaldo's brilliance. The Portuguese captain dribbled the ball into the Luxembourg penalty area, threaded Maxime Chanot with a needle, and then fell down even though he was not affected by the opponent. This action did not go through the eyes of referee Radu Petrescu. Seven minutes later, Ronaldo left the field, making way for Goncalo Ramos.

On Twitter, the account @Princechi01 commented on this ball: "Yellow card for Ronaldo. The lord of the game. Oh my god! He also beat the Luxembourg", accompanied by a tearful smiley emoji. Luxembourg is currently 92nd in the FIFA rankings and is considered one of the weakest teams in Europe.

The account @HereForMessi10 mentioned MC Piers Morgan with the message: "Ronaldo received a yellow card before Luxembourg". Another joked: "Ronaldo just received a yellow card for pretending to fall even though the opponent did not touch him. The ball took place when Portugal met Luxembourg and were leading 4-0. One thing can't be denied: Ronaldo wants to score more than anyone."

"I could never understand Ronaldo. How can a great player like this", account @ItzzABC commented. "Oh, what a beautiful fall of Ronaldo. Messi can't do this. That's why Ronaldo is better than Messi", another compared with sarcasm.

Ronaldo started in the first two games under new coach Roberto Martinez. Before that, he scored twice against Liechtenstein. The performance of the 38-year-old striker made many people believe that he would dedicate more games to Portugal, although there were earlier rumors that Ronaldo would leave the team after the 2022 World Cup.

Ronaldo is playing for Al Nassr in the Saudi Championship, scoring nine goals in eight appearances. He is likely to become the first player to hit 200 caps for the national team when Portugal face Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland in Euro 2024 qualifying in June.
