Ronaldo was compensated money in the rape case
A US judge ruled that Mayorga's lawyer Leslie Stovall must personally pay the amount for Ronaldo. The ruling came after the Portugal forward said he was influenced by the "reckless conduct" of his lawyer in a lengthy lawsuit.
Ronaldo has always denied allegations of raping Mayorga, now 40, in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009 and insists they had consensual sex. The police have also never filed any charges.
According to Mayorga's testimony, Ronaldo sexually assaulted her at Palms Casino Resort, Las Vegas in June 2009, when he was a Man Utd player. In 2010, Mayorga accepted a payment of $375,000 from Ronaldo as part of an agreement that she would keep the matter private.
But in 2018, the American beauty flipped the bet and filed a lawsuit in a civil court in Las Vegas. Mayorga's legal team believes that the client signed the agreement with Ronaldo in a "mentally abnormal" state and was coerced.
Therefore, Mayorga is seeking $78 million in damages from the Portuguese striker for the mental and physical harm she suffered over 10 years, after Football Leaks revealed contact details between her lawyers. Ronaldo.
In June 2022, District Judge Jennifer Dorsey denied the request on the basis that she was dissatisfied with the way the documents submitted to the court were collected. "Ronaldo would not have suffered the majority of the fees and expenses he has spent on this litigation had the plaintiff's attorneys not been in good faith," the judge said in an 18-page written ruling.
Dorsey also rejected Mayorga's offer to require Ronaldo to present his contract to his lawyer to see if the 38-year-old striker would benefit from any fee discounts. The judge also accused Stovall of defaming the case to the point of "irretribution" by using hacked documents detailing discussions between Ronaldo and his lawyer about the rape allegations.
Ronaldo's legal team has repeatedly said that the documents were forged with the aim of smearing the client. The 38-year-old striker was awarded more than half of the $609,680 in legal fees he was trying to recover, but not the full amount, because of Stovall's "unfaithful" actions.
The judge explained that Mayorga's lawyer was not required to pay the full amount because Ronaldo could have acted sooner to dismiss the case against him.
"It's clear that from the very beginning Mayorga's allegations were rooted in stolen documents," Dorsey said. "Ronaldo shares at least part of the responsibility for making the case go on so long, even though he has to recognize suspicious things in the documents. I therefore refuse to ask for a full refund of the fees for the work done by the parties. Ronaldo's attorney did during the discovery or trial preparation, as that work could have been avoided."
At the time of the incident, Ronaldo - aged 24 and first wearing a Man Utd shirt - was on holiday in Las Vegas with his brother-in-law and cousin. New model Mayorga - then 25 - was working in the Rain nightclub, inside the Palms Casino Resort, and met the Portuguese star in the VIP area.
Ronaldo ended 20 years of playing in Europe when he joined the Saudi Arabian club, Al Nassr under a contract until June 2025, with a salary of $ 75 million in early 2023. He scored five goals in four games, including one goal. in the Al Fateh 2-2 draw and the poker in the 4-0 win over Al Wehda. Ronaldo will play the next match against Al Taawon on February 17.
