If female colleagues Christine Sinclair and Marta score at tournaments in Australia and New Zealand this summer, Cristiano Ronaldo will lose his record of scoring the most World Cups.

Ronaldo and the two women mentioned above are sharing the scoring record in five consecutive World Cups. At this year's women's world championship, Marta (Brazil) and Sinclair (Canada) both participated. If they score, they will set a new milestone. Meanwhile, the tournament in Qatar in 2022 seems to be the last World Cup in Ronaldo's career, so it is impossible to increase the achievement. This year he is 38 years old.

Marta and Sinclair made their first appearance at the 2003 World Cup. Sinclair, then 20, scored his first goal of the tournament for Canada, in their opening group stage match losing 1-4 to Germany. A day later, 17-year-old Marta also scored her first goal as Brazil beat South Korea 3-0.

Since then, Sinclair has scored 10 of Canada's 34 goals, or 29.4%, at the World Cup. This is higher than any player scoring seven or more goals in this tournament. The 40-year-old striker also holds the record for the most goalscorer for the national team with 190 goals.

Marta is likened to the "queen" of football with six Golden Balls even though she has never won the World Cup. On June 18, 2019, Marta scored the only goal on the penalty spot to help Brazil beat Italy, also her 17th goal at the Women's World Cup. The Brazilian legend surpassed Miroslav Klose (16 goals) to become the greatest scorer in both the men's and women's versions.

Marta could become the oldest goalscorer at the Women's World Cup - 37 years and 154 days on the first day of the group stage, surpassing the record of former teammate Formiga (37 years and 99 days). Meanwhile, Sinclair just celebrated her 40th birthday in June, possibly becoming the first female player over 40 to play a game and score at the World Cup. In the men's tournament, Cameroon's Roger Milla did this in 1994 at the age of 42 years and 39 days.

Marta's record of 17 goals is difficult to catch when most of the names approaching have retired. Former US striker Abby Wambach and former German midfielder Birgit Prinz ranked second with 14 goals. American striker Michelle Akers ranked fourth with 12 goals, including a record of 10 goals in 1991.

The next place belongs to Cristiane (Brazil), Sun Wen (China and Bettina Wiegmann (Germany) with 11 goals. Ann-Kristin Aarones (Norway), Carli Lloyd (USA), Heidi Mohr (Germany) and Christine Sinclair have 1st place. with 10 goals Four players scored nine goals including Linda Medalan and Hege Riise (Norway), Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe (USA).
