Ronaldo kicked the water bottle after the loss
After the end, Ronaldo and his teammates still clapped the Al Nassr audience at King Abdullah Sports City. But when he left the field, tens of thousands of spectators on the field chanted Lionel Messi's name. A teammate encouraged the Portuguese superstar, but he staggered away and mumbled something.
When he just went out of the touchline and saw a few water bottles on the ground, Ronaldo kicked so hard that two water bottles were thrown. The teammates looked and didn't say a word, and the 38-year-old striker took the captain's armband and went into the tunnel first.
This is not the first time Ronaldo has vented his anger on objects in the field. The most recent was in the 1/8 round of the 2022 World Cup with Switzerland, when he had to sit on the bench at a major tournament for the first time in 14 years. In that match, Ronaldo repeatedly threw his shoes and water bottles to relieve his anger, even though Portugal won 6-1. He also threw the Portugal captain's armband at least five times after the defeats.
Ronaldo was also unhappy when the audience mentioned Messi's name. After Al Nassr beat Al Batin 3-2 in the previous round but he failed to score, an audience member shouted "Messi" when he saw Ronaldo. CR7 replied: "Why don't you go see Messi, what are you doing here?".
On the evening of March 9, Ronaldo did not score for the second consecutive match, and Al Nassr lost 0-1 and was taken by Al Ittihad himself at the top of the Saudi League table. The former Real Madrid striker finished three times, including a free-kick into the sky. He also once demonstrated the technique of jerking the heel to his teammates, but the ball flew straight out of the field. Ronaldo was also fouled once in the penalty area but Spanish referee Mateu Lahoz did not blow the penalty, as he had been offside before.
Ronaldo played seven games for Al Nassr, scoring eight and assisting two. He has just won the best player award in February 2023 in the Western region of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). In the next match, Al Nassr took on Abha in the third Saudi King's Cup on March 14.
