Quoc Hoang won eight games in the world 10 ball pool tournament

Quoc Hoang is the only Vietnamese player left after the first two days of competition at the tournament. In the afternoon of 2/3 Hanoi time (evening 1/3 Las Vegas time), the number one player in Vietnam was led 3-0 by Lunda but did not have time to go to the main lane. The American player is not on the current WPA world rankings, but clears the table in the first three games.

But the turning point came in game four, when Lunda hit a lot of marbles in a difficult position. When ball seven was close to the ice, he made a mistake and now Quoc Hoang has the opportunity to stand up and take the bet. Although there were times when the opponent ran hard, the 36-year-old player still won four games in a row to lead 4-3.

In game eight, Lunda had the opportunity to block the winning streak of the Vietnamese player, with a favorable ball position. However, in front of a straight third ball, the American player made a mistake and watched Quoc Hoang raise the score to 5-3.

In the next two games, Quoc Hoang broke marbles and cleared the table. In the deciding game, Lunda missed the number one ball in a not too difficult position. Once again Quoc Hoang punished the opponent's mistake to win the final 8-3.

Quoc Hoang will enter the third round of the losing bracket against the Philippines player Roland Garcia at 6 am tomorrow 3/3, Hanoi time. Garcia was runner-up in the world 9-ball pool tournament in 2017.

Players who reach this round need to win the next two matches to advance to the knockout round. If you defeat Garcia, the Emperor will meet the loser in the match between Marco Teutscher and Toru Kurabayashi.

The remaining three Vietnamese players have all stopped. The defending national champions Ta Van Linh, and Nguyen Anh Tuan both lost both matches at the tournament and were eliminated. And Luong Duc Thien won the first match in the losing bracket, but lost to Ko Pin-Yi 0-8 in the second match.

The 2023 world 10 ball pool tournament will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA from February 28 to March 4, bringing together 128 invited players. The tournament is divided into two stages, the first stage is a double elimination, the player who wins eight games first will move on to the winning bracket, and the loser of one match will go to the losing bracket. The loser in the losing bracket will be eliminated. 16 players in the winning bracket and 16 players in the losing bracket will enter the second phase.

The second phase consists of 32 knockout players, whoever wins 10 games first will move on. The winner of one game will break the ball in the next game, the referee sets the frame and the player must not touch the ball. The prize fund of the prize is 250,000 USD, of which 60,000 USD goes to the champion. The 2022 champion Wojciech Szewczyk became the former king when he lost to compatriot Wiktor Zielinski in the second round of the losing bracket.
