Quang Liem wins second match in Champions Chess Tour Finals
In the past two main stages in the Champions Chess Tour, Quang Liem both won Duda and the match on the morning of November 18, Hanoi time, was no exception. The number one player in Vietnam drew the first two games, then won the next two games to end the match with a score of 3-1. He earned another $7,500 to raise the Tour Finals prize money to $17,500, placing third at the tournament.
In the first game, the Vietnamese player held a white piece and ended up in a losing position, but Duda could not take advantage of the victory and was held to a draw after 57 moves. Taking the black piece in the second game, Quang Liem won right from the middle of the game when he brought both cars to the second row and the horse to the third row, but the Polish player tried to bring the flag to a draw in the endgame.
Quang Liem held the white piece in game three and was determined to win by pushing the king's wing well and putting pressure on column g. The first game was complicated and the 31-year-old player calculated correctly to take the lead in the match.
In the fourth game that was forced to win, Duda could not make it difficult for the opponent. The 24-year-old player was able to draw invariably, but that result was not enough for him to avoid losing. He was forced to fight and wait for Quang Liem to make a mistake, but that didn't happen. In the end, Duda asked to lose after 71 moves, which meant a 1-3 defeat in the match.
In other matches, Magnus Carlsen maintained a winning record when defeating Anish Giri 3-0. Erigaisi Arjun scored the first points with a 3-1 victory over Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, while Wesley So beat Indian prodigy Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa.
