Paris Saint-Germain is about to ask Messi to sign a new contract

Messi's current contract expires at the end of next season. When the Argentina star signed a two-year deal with PSG in the summer of 2021, the deal reportedly allowed PSG to renew their contract for another year. But according to Marca, the clause does not exist and PSG are drawing up a new contract to keep the 35-year-old forward.

PSG are said to have told Messi they are ready to offer a new deal until 2024. But the Argentina captain wants to wait until the 2022 World Cup is over before thinking about the future.

Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain at the beginning of last season, ending two decades at Barcelona. Covid-19 and injuries have limited his contribution. Messi has never made 10 consecutive appearances for PSG and his form is clearly not as good as it was when he was at Barcelona. Messi scored only 6 goals and contributed 14 assists. Still, pundits are highly appreciative and predict Messi will explode in his second season at PSG.

At Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappe is the number one star. Earlier, it was reported that the French striker wanted to leave and join Real Madrid due to Messi's arrival. But in the end, PSG managed to persuade Mbappe to stay and gave the striker some privileges in the dressing room.

Of the current Paris Saint-Germain attacking trio, Neymar is the most "clever". Paris Saint-Germain recruited the Brazilian striker in 2017 for a record $263 million. But the Brazilian striker's contribution tapered off over five years. Chelsea are said to want to recruit Neymar, but the 30-year-old star himself does not want to leave Parc des Princes.
