Onana wants to win the Champions League with Man Utd
In an interview with Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport on July 18, Onana said that he had said goodbye to his Inter teammates after a season of attachment. "I will join a big tournament, for a team rich in tradition similar to Inter," he said. "I accept a new challenge with coach Erik ten Hag - who used to be my teacher. Playing in the Premier League with Man Utd is an attractive prospect, and I also want to win the Champions League with a new team."
Negotiations between Man Utd and Inter lasted several weeks, but the two teams reached an agreement on the transfer fee of Onana, with $ 62 million, of which 57 million was paid in advance. Inter's difficult financial situation forced them to sell Onana after only one season. The Cameroon goalkeeper is eager to join Man Utd, but also feels there is no problem if he has to stay. "I had no problems during my time at Inter, the opposite was different," he said. "My memories with this club are magical, hard to describe in words."
Inter won two minor trophies last season, and reached the Champions League final despite losing to Man City. He wants Man Utd to win the Champions League, but also hopes Inter can do so in the future. The 27-year-old goalkeeper also left open the possibility of returning to Milano. "Life is always unpredictable, and maybe one day I will return," he said.

Onana is impressed by the Inter fans, and thinks that he can travel the world but it is difficult to find such passionate audiences. "There are matches where I feel the team is not only playing with 11 people, but with 80,000 people," he added. "I will not forget the semi-final victory over Milan in the Champions League, or dance with the fans to celebrate the Italian Cup. I will also remember friends like Hakan Calhanoglu, Alex Cordaz, Romelu Lukaku, Denzel Dumfries and Samir Handanovic when they join. Man Utd".
Onana flew to England on the evening of July 18, and will have a medical with Man Utd today July 19. He will then sign a five-year contract with the club, with the option of a one-season extension. The former Ajax goalkeeper can go to the US to train with Man Utd, but he will have to go alone.
Onana grew up from the Barca training camp, so he is highly appreciated for his ability to use his feet to play. He played for Ajax from 2016 to 2022 before joining Inter as a free agent. At Man Utd, he will start in place of David de Gea, and wants to continue the anecdote of talented goalkeepers at Old Trafford, from Peter Schmeichel to Edwin van der Sar and De Gea.
