Nguyen Thuy Linh entered the quarterfinals of the Thai badminton tournament
Thuy Linh first met 21-year-old Taiwanese tennis player Ciou-Tong Tung. Although she had a bit of difficulty before the 170th opponent's powerful cross-court attack, she was able to shine at the decisive moment, winning tickets to the quarterfinals after 59 minutes of competition. Thuy Linh is the only Vietnamese tennis player still standing in Thailand International Challenge 2023, 11 of her teammates have all lost their matches and left the tournament.
In the first set, Thuy Linh was only led in the first and second points. After equalizing 2-2, she continuously went ahead and finished with a difference of 21-11. In the second set, Thuy Linh started well with smashes along the border or slashing the bridge, making the opponent unable to react. But after leading 8-5, the Vietnamese player kept making mistakes - hitting out or not over the net. According to a teammate present in the stands, Thuy Linh was in the field under the influence of the air-conditioning wind, so she had limited force and didn't trust her hand. In addition, Ciou-Tong Tung also promotes the strength of powerful cross-court shots. The Taiwanese tennis player won 21-17.
At the beginning of the third set, Thuy Linh suffered from the referee's decision. Ciou-Tong Tung hit out, but the referee decided that the bridge in the yard let her shorten the score to 2-3. Thuy Linh reacted but did not change the score. Right after that, Ciou-Tong Tung continued to hit outside. Initially, the referee gave her a 3-3 score, but because of Thuy Linh's reaction, they changed their mind, helping the Vietnamese player lead 4-2 and continuously lead to 11-8 before changing courts.
After changing the pitch, Thuy Linh scored 3 points immediately, with situations of straight hitting that made the opponent unable to react, crossed out of reach and the tee shot caused Ciou-Tong Tung to give up because he thought he was out, but the bridge was still there. fell in the yard.
However, victory did not come easily to Thuy Linh. Many times she did not have time to react to the opponent's cross-court hits, or made small mistakes that didn't go over the net or hit the outside, letting the opponent narrow the score to 18-16.
Like the previous match, Thuy Linh was able to promote her bravery at the decisive moment. She had a series of situations that crossed the field or smashed along the edge to win 21-17.
In the quarterfinals, Thuy Linh will face Prasista Bilqis, the player who unexpectedly defeated the Japanese number 5 seed Mizui Hirari.
Thuy Linh was born on November 20, 1997, won a gold medal at the national youth badminton championship at the age of 17. In 2018, she usurped the number one position in Vietnam of senior Vu Thi Trang. In 2020, thanks to the 42nd position in the world, the tennis player from Phu Tho village was represented in Vietnam at the 2021 Olympics - where she won two, lost one and finished second in the group stage.
Thuy Linh is currently ranked 49th in the world in women's singles on the World Badminton Federation scoreboard.
