American businessman Steve Cohen with a fortune of 20 billion USD has just reached an agreement to form a New York team to compete on TGL initiated by former world number one golfer Tiger Woods.

TGL announced Cohen on September 7, thereby identifying the fourth team owner for the 2024 opening season. Cohen is 67 years old, successful through investment activities, especially through hedging funds. According to Institutional Investor, Cohen earned about $1.7 billion in 2020. This is also the year he spent $2.4 billion to own a 97.2% stake in the famous New York Mets team in the American professional baseball league ( MLB). Last year, Forbes estimated the team's value at about $2.6 billion.

Before Cohen, TGL had finalized three teams, initially named after locations including Los Angeles, Boston and Atlanta.

Team Los Angeles has main investors such as Venus sisters - Serena Williams (tennis), Alexis Ohanian - co-founder of social network Reddit. Meanwhile, the Boston team is backed by Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Boston Red Sox in MLB baseball and the Pittsburgh Penguins in NHL hockey. And the Atlanta team has billionaire Arthur Blank behind with a personal fortune of $ 8 billion.

TGL launched in August 2022, is recognized as a partner by the PGA Tour and is managed by TMRW Sports, with Woods and Rory McIlroy serving as co-founders.

According to the plan, TGL has 18 players divided equally among six teams and only takes place in Palm Beach, Florida. It is expected that the first season will have 18 encounters, including the semi-finals and finals, all taking place at prime time on Monday evening on a simulated field, but on a real green surface. The competition space is designed in the style of a stadium with stands and is broadcast live.

The competition area is as wide as 3/4 of an American football field (110 meters long, 48.8 meters wide), with greens installed to adjust the difficulty for each hole in the field on the machine. The organizers will set up a large screen for the audience to monitor each shot's parameters such as clubhead and ball speed, hitting distance, ball trajectory...

TGL has so far pulled 12 stars on the PGA Tour, including Woods and McIlroy.
