QatarDaniil Medvedev beat Andy Murray 6-4, 6-4 in the Qatar Open final on February 25, thereby winning two ATP tournaments for the first time in two weeks.

A week after winning in Rotterdam and back in the top 10 ATP, Medvedev continued to perform well in Doha. He knocked out Felix Auger-Alissime in the semi-finals, then beat Murray in the final to claim his 17th career title.

In both sets in the final, Medvedev won the game to catch the ball to get ahead early. Murray played hard to chase in both sets, but Medvedev was cooler at the decisive moment to win after one hour 47 minutes. "The influence of the wind made it impossible for us to play stably," Medvedev said after the game. "Sometimes one of the two players is bad, then suddenly they play well. I'm happy to have won this tough match."

Next Monday, Medvedev will climb to seventh on the ATP scoreboard, overtaking Rafael Nadal. Murray, despite losing in his first final appearance in four years, still rose 18 places to world number 52. Murray and Medvedev will both be at the ATP 500 in Dubai next week.

"Medvedev is a tennis player that I love to watch," Murray said of juniors. "It's great to have the opportunity to face a player of such a high level in the final. Not the end I wanted in Doha, but this is a tournament where I've had great matches."

Before losing his third straight game to Medvedev, Murray had to play four matches in Doha in three sets. Two of them he saved the match-point to continue. In the semi-final against Jiri Lehecka, Murray saved five match-points to escape after falling 3-5 in the final set.

This season, Medvedev has won 14 matches and lost only two. He owns a nine-match winning streak, since being eliminated in the third round of the Australian Open earlier this year. The winner of the most matches on the ATP Tour in 2023 is Cameron Norrie, with 17 matches. Norrie just defeated Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 to reach the ATP 500 Rio Open final against Carlos Alcaraz.
