USAFourth seed Daniil Medvedev took only 63 minutes to defeat Roberto Baena 6-1, 6-2 in the opening match in the second round of the Miami Open on the evening of March 25.

The fact that Carlos Alcaraz interrupted the 19-match victory in the Indian Wells final last week did not reduce Medvedev's form. The Russian player got off to a strong start at the second Masters 1000 of the year in Miami. He had 15 winners and won all four break-points earned against Baena. Medvedev sometimes won seven games in a row, from the third game in the first set to the third game in the second set.

The Miami Open is the only hard-court Masters 1000 that Medvedev has yet to reach the final. He wants to spoil this year, after playing well at Indian Wells last week. The world number five said: "I've always been excited about hardcourt events, that's pretty obvious. Miami has a great audience, great atmosphere and it would be great if I could stay in shape here. ".

Medvedev's opponent in the third round is Alex Molcan, the Slovakian tennis player being coached by former Novak Djokovic coach Marian Vajda.

The highlight of the match day on March 25 was Hubert Hurkacz's breathtaking victory over Thanasi Kokkinakis. The two players played three tie-breaks in three hours and 31 minutes, making it the longest three-set match this season. Hurkacz saved five match-points, including three in the second set and two in the third. The Polish tennis player won back one of the best matches of his career, with a score of 6-7(10), 7-6(7), 7-6(6).

Hurkacz, the eighth seed, will face Adrian Mannarino in the third round. Second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas didn't spare much effort to get to the third round, thanks to rival Richard Gasquet withdrawing due to injury. The Greek tennis player will play Cristian Garin in the third round.
