Medvedev returns to top 10 ATP
The championship in Rotterdam, the Netherlands was Medvedev's 16th and 15th hard-court titles. He will return to the top 10 ATP when the scoreboard is updated today, February 20. "I'm glad I'm finding my form again. This is the first championship after three tournaments I attended since the beginning of the year. It's a positive sign compared to last season," the Russian tennis player shared.
Medvedev's sixth consecutive victory over Sinner, who just won in Montpellier on February 12. The Russian player had a difficult start, losing 5-7 in the first set, before winning 12 of 16 games in the remaining two sets. Instead of hitting hard and waiting for the opponent to make their own mistakes, Medvedev was more proactive in the next two sets and regained the game.
"Sinner played better than me in the first set," Medvedev said of his opponent. "I have to concentrate as much as possible, hit harder in the next two sets to get him as close to the bottom line as possible." The reverse win moved the 27-year-old to eighth in the ATP rankings, ahead of Hubert Hurkacz, Holger Rune and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Medvedev won the third tournament to attend this season. Last year, he needed 12 awards to win the first time of the year. In the match against Sinner, the Russian player played stably in most of the ball. He hit his forehand on 91%, his backhand on 93% and returned his second serve to 95%.
