Mbappe and Messi save PSG
PSG took the initiative in the match on Brest's field on the evening of March 11. They could have opened the scoring from the situation where Messi passed the shot to Carlos Soler, if goalkeeper Marco Bizot hadn't pushed the ball wide of the post.
In the 37th minute, Soler successfully took advantage of the second chance. After Bizot pushed Mbappe's shot from 25 meters, the Spaniard hit the home team's net.
PSG was somewhat lacking in concentration after the opening goal. On the contrary, Brest kicked in more and then equalized 1-1 in the 43rd minute. After a long pass from Del Castillo's home field, Honorat passed two defenders Sergio Ramos and Timothee Pembele to face goalkeeper Donnarumma. The player wearing Brest's number 9 then shot into the top corner.
PSG were unlucky in most of the shots in the second half. Bizot pushed a phase to cut Messi's heart. Mbappe also missed two good opportunities.
However, when the match turned to 90 minutes, the level of the two best players of the 2022 World Cup helped PSG to win three points. Messi clears the deck with a long pass from home. Mbappe then dribbled past Bizot and shot into an empty goal.
The win over Brest cemented the Ligue 1 lead for PSG. The Paris team currently owns 66 points after 27 matches, 11 points and one more than second-placed Marseille. Meanwhile, Brest continues to rank 15th with 23 points.
The victory against Brest is a spiritual medicine for PSG after being eliminated from the Champions League. In the second leg of the 1/8 round on March 8, PSG lost 0-2 on the field of Bayern. The German team entered the quarterfinals with a final score of 3-0.
Ligue 1 is the only arena left for PSG to compete for the title. Before that, they lost to Marseille in the round of 16 of the French Cup.
