England have successfully recruited versatile defender Lisandro Martinez from Ajax for a transfer fee of up to $55 million.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said that when Manchester United reached an agreement with Ajax and Martinez on the morning of July 15th London time, the deal was completed. Chief executive Richard Arnold and director of football John Murtu flew to Amsterdam on behalf of Manchester United on July 13 for talks with Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar over Martinez.

Man Utd will have to pay Ajax a maximum fee of $ 55 million, including a fixed part and a part of the surcharge depending on Martinez's contribution to the new team. The 24-year-old defender signed a five-year contract with Man Utd, where he reunited with his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag was an important catalyst for the deal to happen as he wanted to continue working with Martinez at United from the start. The centre-back also rejected Arsenal's choice to wear the "Red Devils" shirt.

Martinez extended his contract with Ajax in October 2021, but the protocols have not stopped the defender from looking for a new side. The Argentina international only wants to leave Ajax while playing in the Premier League and is delighted to be recruited by United.

Martinez was born in Gualeguay, Argentina on January 18, 1998, and grew up with Newell's Old Boys. He joined Ajax in the summer of 2019 and has worked under Ten Hag ever since. He helped Ajax win the Dutch championship three years in a row, and was named Team Player of the Year for the 2021-2022 season.

Martinez has often played at centre-back for Ajax recently, but he can play well at left-back and defensive midfield. Martinez, who is only 1.75 meters tall, was Ajax's best air battle last season, with a success rate of 71%. He can play as many roles as Daly Blind did last season, but what the Argentina international is more admired for is his dueling ability.
