The reigning Premier League champions are said to be poised to sell Raheem Sterling to rivals for around $54 million.

The Daily Mail reports that talks between the two music clubs are progressing smoothly. Sterling is likely to sign a four-year contract with Chelsea in the coming days.

Chelsea could have to pay around $54 million, the equivalent of the amount Manchester City paid for the 27-year-old star from Liverpool in 2015.

Sterling spoke to Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel. The exchange opened up what he could have done when he joined Stamford Bridge and prompted him to leave Manchester City.

In 339 appearances for City, Sterling has scored 131 goals and won four Premier League matches, one FA Cup, one English Super Cup and four League Cups. The 27-year-old winger was also named Player of the Year for the 2018-2019 season by the British Association of Sports Journalists.

Sterling may not be the only player City sold to Chelsea this summer. More questions about midfielder Nathan Ake and left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko are being discussed between the two music clubs.

Sterling is the second striker on the verge of leaving City. It comes after the reigning Premier League champions struck a deal to sell Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal.

In the opposite direction, City bought two other forwards, Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, for $62 million and $17 million. In addition, 29-year-old German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega joined from Bielefeld on a free transfer.
