Man Utd paid extra to convince Maguire to leave
This summer, Maguire has two years left on his contract with Man Utd with a salary of $ 240,000 per week. He must reduce his salary to 150,000, if he moves to West Ham. To make up for the deficit and convince Maguire to accept his departure, Man Utd decided to spend 7.6 million.
According to the Sun, Man Utd and West Ham have reached an agreement to transfer Maguire for $ 38 million. The "Red Devils" suffered a loss of $ 58 million compared to when he bought him from Leicester City in the summer of 2019. The deal will be completed when West Ham finishes negotiating personal terms with Maguire.
Maguire joined Man Utd when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was still a coach. At that time, he became the most expensive defender in the world with a price of 96 million USD. The 30-year-old midfielder only lost the record after Man City bought Josko Gvardiol this summer for 99 million. After playing well in the first two seasons, Maguire fell without braking from the 2021-2022 season. If they sell Maguire soon, Man Utd can speed up negotiations to buy defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina and midfielder Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice.
