Manchester United last week struck a $15.5 million advance payment and a $2 million surcharge deal to recruit Malasia from Feyenoord, according to Sky Sports. In addition, Feyenoord will also receive a certain bonus if Manchester United sell the Dutch defender in the future. The Old Trafford boss was late in the race to sign Malaysia but increased the purchase fee to beat Lyon.
Malasia has a four-year contract with Manchester United, with the option of extending it for another year. The 22-year-old defender has been in Manchester since June 4 to complete medical procedures and sign for United, making him the first contract of Eric's ten-hag era. Malasia will compete with Alex Tyrus and Luke Shaw for official positions from next season.
Since working at Ajax, Erik Ten Hag has spoken highly of Malaysia in terms of speed, sense of position, interception rate and space utilization. The Dutch coach believes that Malaysia will especially improve Manchester United's left wing during the transition period.
On his debut for United, Malasia also praised Shihag as a top manager because of his experience against Ajax. He also sees a move to Manchester United as a new chapter in his career and has promised to "go all out every time he wears a red shirt".
Manchester United director of football John Murtu said: "Malaysia is a dynamic, interesting and experienced young player at his age. He played for the Dutch league, the European Cup finals and the Dutch team for five seasons. We hope that Malaysia will continue to develop under the guidance of Erik Ten Hag and his coaching team in the next few years."
After Malaysia, Manchester United will undergo a medical and announce a three-year contract with Christian Eriksen. The Old Trafford boss also targeted midfielder Lisandro Martinez and Ajax winger Anthony to continue to strengthen.
