After the semi-final second leg loss to Thailand on the evening of January 10, Malaysian fans sang and wished the opponent to defeat Vietnam in the final of the AFF Cup 2022.

About 300 spectators came to Thammasat Stadium (Bangkok) to cheer on Malaysia. In this match, their team only needs to not lose to reach the final, by winning 1-0 in the first leg at Bukit Jalil.

However, the goals of Teerasil Dangda, Bordin Phala and Adisak Kraisorn helped Thailand win 3-0, winning tickets to the final against Vietnam.

After the match, the Thai players walked along the stands to thank the fans. When they stopped in front of the Malaysian stands, the guests immediately sang "Sawasdee krub Thailand!", a polite Thai way to greet or say goodbye to each other.

After singing, some people shouted: "Beat Vietnam" and "Good luck in the final".

The Thai players clapped their hands in response to wishes from the opposing fans. Among these is the captain Theerathon Bunmathan, and some pillars of the "War Elephants" such as Suphanan, Bordin Phala, Sarach Yooyen, Ekanit Panya, Peeradol or Adisak Kraisorn.

The action of Malaysian fans is rare in Southeast Asia, where there is a tradition of confrontation between teams. Thai media praised Malaysian fans for showing noble spirit.

Malaysia used to face Vietnam in the group stage this year, when they lost 0-3 at My Dinh Stadium in a controversial match. That match, Malaysia conceded first, but was able to play better because Nguyen Van Toan received a red card. At the beginning of the second half, referee Ryuji Sato disqualified defender Azam Azmi for beating Doan Van Hau and giving Vietnam a penalty, a decision that Malaysian fans considered unfair.

Vietnam will play Thailand in the first leg final on January 13 at My Dinh Stadium, then three days later, the second leg will be played at Thammasat.
