Ma Minh Cam wins PBA Tour 5

South Korea Ma Minh Cam became the first Vietnamese player to win a PBA Tour stage, after defeating Oh Tae-jun 4-1 in the final and receiving a bonus of 100 million won on the evening of December 16.

Minh Cam had a bad start in the High1 Resort Championship final, losing the first game with an average score (Avg) of only 0.583 per turn. But in the next four games, the 47-year-old player won by a difference of 1,429 Avg points. In particular, he won the most impressive in game four with 2,143 Avg points, in addition to a series of eight points.

When the score was 10-10 in game five, Minh Cam "danced" with an A bang (the cue ball touched the ice first and then the goal ball), earning him two points. Vietnamese players scored three more points in a row to end the match. After five games, Minh Cam won the final 7-15, 15-12, 15-10, 15-8 and 15-10, to win the PBA Tour for the first time.

This title helps Minh Cam to be awarded 100 million won (about 1.8 billion VND). This is also the best achievement of a Vietnamese player in PBA history. Previously, the highest result of a Vietnamese player was the runner-up of Nguyen Huynh Phuong Linh at TS Shamppo Championship in September 2021.

Minh Cam also rose to fifth in the prize pool at PBA Tour 2022-2023, with 1.9 billion dong, behind David Zapata, David Martinez, Uyrol Bimaz and Cho Jae-ho.

The Professional Billiards Association (PBA) was established in Seoul, South Korea, February 2019. However, players who switch to the PBA will not be able to compete in the World Billiards Federation (UMB) tournaments for the next few years. Vietnam has four top players playing in PBA 2022-2023, namely Minh Cam, Ngo Dinh Nai, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen and Phuong Linh.

High1 Resort Championship is the fifth stage of PBA Tour 2022-2023, taking place at High1 Resort, Jeongseon District, Gangwon Province, South Korea from December 9 to December 16. Two-time world champion player Frederic Caudron stopped walking in the first round. On the way to the championship, Minh Cam defeated Lee Kyong-wook, Lee Jung-hoon, Lee Yeong-hun, David Zapata, Jang Nam-guk, Kim Hyun-woo and Oh Tae-jun, respectively. Dinh Nai and Phuong Linh stopped in the first round, while Quoc Nguyen went to the third round before being eliminated.

Minh Cam was born on September 3, 1975, used to drive a taxi for 12 years before turning to professional billiards with carom content in 2008. His best achievement at UMB is the world bronze medal (World Championship) 2017 in the city. Santa Cruz Street, Bolivia. In 2019, Minh Cam switched to PBA and hasn't appeared at UMB since.
