Losing to Thailand, Vietnamese women's volleyball waits for China

Vietnam and Thailand are certain to enter the semi-finals, so tonight's match only has the meaning of determining first and second place. The two teams were at full strength in the first two halves, before gradually bringing in reserve players to play the remaining time.

Thailand has a higher level, playing at home again, so they enter the game excitedly and create a large score gap. When leading 14-19, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet sent Ly Thi Luyen onto the field. And this constitutes the turning point. The 1.96 m tall attacker scored four points in a row to help the home team shorten the score to 18-19.

Thailand continued to create a three-point gap, but Vietnam equalized and took the lead 23-22 from captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy's shot behind the 3-meter line. In the decisive situation, Thailand knocked the ball out and then appealed, but VAR determined that the ball did not touch Vietnam. Set one ended with a 25-23 victory for Vietnam.

In the second set, Thailand soon regained the game with good ball smashes. Passing two Pornpun Guedpard shows world class with favorable sparks. Thailand sometimes led with a 12 point difference, before winning 25-14.

In the following two sets, both teams let their reserve players play more. Vietnam had a time of struggle, but Thailand did not let any surprises happen. They won 25-19 and 25-23 respectively.

Second in Group E, Vietnam will face China - ranked 5th in the world - in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Thailand faced defending champion Japan. Two matches took place on the afternoon of September 5.
