Lewandowski receives the Golden Shoe 2022
The 2022 Golden Shoe awards ceremony took place at a brewery in Barcelona, when Lewandowski appeared in a green Bentley Continental GT worth more than 300,000 USD, special control plate RL 9999. He was the main character of the ceremony, having won this award thanks to 35 goals in the Bundesliga last season, surpassing Kylian Mbappe's 28 goals in Ligue 1 and Karim Benzema's 27 goals in La Liga.
At the ceremony, former Barca captain Carles Puyol gave Lewandowski the second Golden Shoe in a row in the Polish striker's career. He is the 12th player in history to win more than one of these awards.
Lewandowski wanted more than that. "This award is very important to me," he said. "I want to win more Golden Shoes with Barca. Surely next year Barca will play better. Now I understand why Barca has the slogan 'More than a club'."
The Golden Shoe was first awarded in 1968 to striker Eusebio, with 42 goals for Benfica in the Portuguese championship. In history, only two players have won more than these two awards, namely Lionel Messi with six and Cristiano Ronaldo with four. In which, in the 2013-2014 season, Ronaldo shared the award with Luis Suarez.
Lewandowski played his last game for Barca before attending the 2022 World Cup with Poland. This team is in Group C with Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Mexico. The 34-year-old striker predicts Argentina is a candidate for the championship, along with Brazil and several strong teams in Europe.
Lewandowski has seven consecutive seasons scoring more than 20 goals in the league. This season, he has scored 13 goals in 14 matches in La Liga, but is only third in the Golden Shoe race. 22-year-old striker Erling Haaland is leading with 18 goals in the Premier League for Man City.
