Kane agreed to go to Bayern
According to The Athletic, Kane has closed to Bayern and is just waiting for Tottenham to give the green light to go to Germany for a medical checkup and complete the transfer. The England captain agreed to personal terms, on a four-year contract proposed by Bayern. Kane's salary is expected to be around £525,000 a week, more than double Kane's weekly salary at Tottenham.
Yesterday 10/8, Tottenham agreed to offer 110 million USD from Bayern. After the two sides agreed on the transfer fee, British media reported that Kane wanted to stay at Spurs because he was satisfied with the new coach Ange Postecoglou. However, just a few hours later, the 30-year-old striker changed his mind and chose to move to Bayern.
Kane only has a contract until June 2024 with Tottenham, and selling him to Bayern helps Spurs avoid losing this striker next year. Bayern also achieved their goal of finding a worthy replacement for Robert Lewandowski, the striker who left the team last summer. The amount they spent to have Kane is the Bundesliga transfer record.
Kane's decision was made early because he wanted to stabilize his future before the new season. In two days, Tottenham will play their opening match against Brentford in the English Premier League. After Kane scored four goals in a friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 earlier this week, coach Postecoglou spoke to him privately, asking Kane to lock his future soon before the opening round of the new season.
Kane is Tottenham's all-time top scorer, with 280 goals in 435 games. If counting the Premier League alone, Kane has scored 213 goals in 320 matches. He needed 48 more goals to break the record for most goalscorers in tournament history held by Alan Shearer. Kane also holds the scoring record for England with 58 goals.
Last season, Kane scored 30 goals in the Premier League as Tottenham finished the season in eighth place and failed to qualify for the European Cup. The North London team has not won a trophy since 2008. This is one of the reasons why Kane wants to leave. Kane has never won a title with the team. His best achievement is reaching the final of the 2015 and 2021 League Cup, the 2019 Champions League final with Tottenham and the Euro 2021 final with England.
