Joel Troy opens the door to win the VGA Tour Championship

The Australian golfer came close to the championship of the domestic professional golf arena when he finished the third round with a score of -7 and a 12-stroke lead at the VGA Tour Championship, on the afternoon of December 21.

Troy took the top of the table from round 2, at -5 and led by five strokes by hitting 66 strokes, thereby breaking his own record of 18 holes on the VGA Tour 2022 (the old milestone of 67 strokes). On the penultimate stage, Troy scored five birdies and two bogeys to score -8 after 15 holes. After holding par for two more holes, Troy again ended the round with a bogey bringing the score down to -7.

But with this result, the Australian golfer lost 12 strokes compared to the second position of Truong Chi Quan (+5). In the professional final, Chi Quan scored seven birdies, the most on the list, but the round score could not be deeply negative due to four bogeys, mostly in the second half of the field.

With the seventh birdie, at hole 18, Chi Quan was two strokes away on T3. This position belongs to Park Jung Min, Brian Jung and Do Hong Giang. The top 10 after three rounds recorded two more domestic representatives, including Doan Van Dinh in seventh (+9) and Dinh Song Hai in T8 (+10).

The VGA Tour Championship takes place on the par72 course of Thanh Lanh Valley Golf & Resort, Vinh Phuc and will close the curtain on the afternoon of December 22. This award is considered as a major final to find the champion of the entire VGA Tour 2022 arena, with a bonus fund of 1.5 billion VND, of which 500 million VND is for the champion. Competitors raced through 4 laps, not cutting out.

The event is only for the top 30 pooled scoreboards, converted according to achievements through four stages, including Lexus Challenge, Vietnam National Championship, Vietnam Open, Vietnam Masters.

This year, the Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) started deploying a professional golf tournament system with the name VGA Tour, following the international model in which deciding the championship of the whole system similar to the US PGA Tour with the FedEx table. Cup and Grand Tour Championship final for the top 30 in East Lake, Atlanta. The DP World Tour (the new name of the European Tour) also applies the same way, through the rankings with the same name of the arena, but the closing tournament in Dubai opens to the top 50.

In the start-up season, VGA Tour has a total of 5 prizes from March to the end of the year, and the average bonus fund is equal to or better than the Asian second-place professional system - Asian Development Tour. With financial backing from businesses, the awards are currently associated with two auto brands and three companies in the financial - banking - securities sector.
