Joel Embiid stops Ja Morant with a beautiful block: Block of The Year candidate?
Joel Embiid's sublime moments and highlights often come in attack, but the Cameroonian bigman couldn't be an MVP contender with that single aspect.
Today (February 24) Embiid reminded everyone that defensively, he was equally outstanding in the Philadelphia 76ers' 110-105 comeback win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

With more than 1 minute left in the game, the Grizzlies took the lead with a fragile 1 point margin. Ja Morant was facilitated for a pick-and-roll situation to have space to break through, take advantage of his speed and ability to finish impact.
Everything went according to plan until… Morant ran into Embiid right in front of the backboard. Thanks to PJ Tucker's excellent defense, Ja Morant was forced to finish hard and before the ball could leave his hand, he received a heavenly block from Joel.
Not only blocking the ball, Embiid also pushed the ball out of Morant's hand and created a beautiful ball. Kudos to bigman 76ers as he timed it perfectly, teaming up with Tucker to create a valid defense.
This is one of the highlights that after watching the video, we need to review the image taken to see how impressive it is. Below are pictures posted on the team's homepage showing how terrible Embiid's block was.
This defense will almost certainly make it to the top of the best blocks of the year.

This is not a match where Joel Embiid played so well in attack. He scored 27 points all game but only reached 7-25 FG, the worst performance since the beginning of the season. But bad attack does not make the All-Star striker falter, especially in defence.
On the contrary, he took it as a motivation to improve the team's ability to win. Embiid's remaining stats include 19 rebounds, 6 assists and especially 6 blocks.

"Comprehensive defense of course is better than just one of them," Embiid said after the game. self.
Even though the attack wasn't good, I'm still happy today because I was able to help the team win defensively, making a good impact on the team's spirit and will to fight."
