Joe Cole hinted that PSG lost because of the goalkeeper

Former midfielder Joe Cole believes that goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was at fault in PSG's goal in the match against Bayern in the 1/8 Champions League round on February 14.

"Nice finish from Coman, but the keeper should have done better," Joe Cole told BT Sport on February 15. The former England international also blamed the PSG defense for the goal, saying that Sergio Ramos and Presnel Kimpembe were not in the right position.

Playing at home, but PSG fell short of Bayern for most of the match. Just like the final of the Champions League 2019-2020, Kingsley Coman scored the only goal for Bayern in the 53rd minute of the rematch in the 1/8 round on February 14. From Alphonso Davies' cross, the 26-year-old cushioned the ball and touched the spot Gianluigi Donnarumma chose, but the PSG goalkeeper still did not react in time. The goal overshadowed the good saves of the Italian goalkeeper in the whole match.

"People talk about Galtier's defensive art, but nobody sees it in the game," Cole added. "Nuno Mendes needs to play better. Kicked the left-back but he seemed distracted in that ball." Former defender Joleon Lescott also blamed the PSG defense, and said that it was an unnecessary goal for PSG.

On Twitter, many PSG fans criticized the team's defense, especially Donnarumma. They think that the Italian goalkeeper is appreciated more than his inherent ability, when this is not the first time he has made a mistake in the Champions League. Last season, Donnarumma's elementary errors also caused PSG to be eliminated by Real in the 1/8 round.

Some people compare Donnarumma to Loris Karius, the goalkeeper who made a series of mistakes that caused Liverpool to lose to Real in the 2017-2018 Champions League final. In the situation of Donnarumma conceding on February 14, PSG fans said that the team would not lose if standing in the wooden frame was Keylor Navas, who went to Nottingham Forest on loan.

Losing 0-1 in the first leg at home, PSG still has not run out of opportunities to continue, especially when this year's Champions League does not apply the away goal rule. The two teams will play the second leg at Bayern on March 9.
