Hanoi midfielder Tran Minh Vuong took a beautiful free kick, contributing to HAGL defeating Viettel 4-1 in the earliest match in the 5th round of V-League 2023, on the evening of April 6.

On the day the V-League returned after more than a month of hiatus for the national teams, HAGL faced doubts. From the beginning of the season, they have not won any, just three points above the bottom of the table Da Nang. Viettel was not too explosive, but proved to be stable with three draws and one victory over the star-filled Hanoi Police. In the last six meetings, HAGL also won only one match, the rest drew two and lost three.

However, Kiatisuk's team managed to pass Hang Day impressively, partly because they met an opponent who also played openly in attack. In the 13th minute, HAGL opened the scoring. From Paollo's ball into the penalty area, midfielder Nguyen Thanh Binh missed, creating an opportunity for Chau Ngoc Quang to defeat goalkeeper Pham Van Phong.

After the goal lost, Viettel had to push up the offensive lineup. However, their play is lacking in sharpness without Gieovane. The Brazilian striker suffered a torn ligament while the replacement deadline has not yet come, so Viettel can only use a foreign soldier, Jaha, to kick in the middle of this match.

However, Viettel still got the equalizer in the 19th minute. Huu Thang held the ball straight into the penalty area, causing Diakite to make a mistake right next to the 16m50 line. In the free-kick situation afterwards, Nguyen Hoang Duc surprised with the kicking phase behind Tien Anh's back to shoot, bringing the ball into Tran Minh Vuong's hand. Referee Hoang Thanh Binh resolutely blew 11m despite the objections of HAGL players. Midfielder Bui Tien Dung took a really powerful free-kick, knocking down goalkeeper Duong Van Loi to equalize 1-1.

As the only foreign soldier of the host of this match, Jaha did not contribute much to Viettel's gameplay. He was unable to recover the ball, and made frequent fouls. It was from the foul of the Uzbek player that HAGL earned the second goal in the 50th minute. On the kick-off point about 25 meters from the goal, Minh Vuong cut his heart to roll the ball close to the edge of the net, making goalkeeper Pham Van Phong unable to do so. stop parachutes from flying people.

Coach Thach Bao Khanh hastily changed tactics, when he threw Nguyen Duc Chien into the midfield to push Hoang Duc to play closer to the opponent's goal. However, this also cannot help Viettel turn the situation around, especially when their defense constantly makes mistakes. In the 66th minute, Thanh Binh and Van Phong did not coordinate well when pressured by Paollo. The home keeper rushed out of the penalty area to head the ball to the right position of the new player entering Nguyen Quoc Viet's field, letting the visitor's striker escape to score a goal to raise the score to 3-1. HAGL's 20-year-old striker then burst into tears of emotion, as this was his first goal in the V-League.

With nothing left to lose, Viettel pushed all the squad to attack. That makes their defense fragile, easily vulnerable to HAGL's quick counter-attacks. In the 76th minute, Brandao sped down the right wing, passing Tien Dung before stretching Paollo to cushion the ball close to the wall to make the score 4-1.

Defeating Viettel, HAGL won the first victory in the V-League 2023. In the 6th round on April 11, the army of coach Kiatisuk received Khanh Hoa.
