Guardiola: 'There are no failures in football'
In an interview with UEFA on June 6, Guardiola understood that Man City must win against Inter in the evening of June 10. "We can't deny that. But the most important thing is the effort not to give up," he said. "We were in the final two years ago and failed. But two years later Man City went to the last game to compete for the title, and that is proof of a great team."
When asked what his motivation was to bring Man City back to the final after two years, the Spaniard added: "There is no defeat in football. To admit defeat is like talking to the home team. If we win, we can celebrate and be in moderation. When we lose, we can cry a little and then come back to practice the next day. We never fail."
Guardiola has led teams to 10 Champions League semi-finals, and will soon be in the fourth final of his career. When asked about the defeats, the 52-year-old coach said: "What is unfair to me is fair to Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid or Barca. The Champions League has brought me heartbreaking defeats, which I have never had. I'll never forget this tournament. But this tournament also has good memories that I will always remember. Football is like that, we can be greedy, but not allowed to be greedy."
Man City will meet Inter on Saturday night June 10 at Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul, Türkiye, with the goal of completing the treble. But Guardiola believes that the preparation process of the team will be no different from previous matches. "We will approach the game the same way we do in midweek games, making sure the players stay focused and don't think about anything else," added the former Barca and Bayern coach.
Man City has a great chance to win the Champions League for the first time, as well as with players like Erling Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva or Ilkay Gundogan. The composition of Man City currently has only one player who has won the Champions League, the reserve goalkeeper Scott Carson with Liverpool 18 years ago.
